Summer is finally here and we have been experiencing some lovely warm weather throughout the UK. Unfortunately high temperatures can have a negative impact on your building’s exterior causing cracking, peeling and colour fading. There are a number of things you can do to repair damaged roofs and cladding and there are a number of things you can do to protect and prevent future problems.
Repair
Once your cladding begins to peel or suffers from cut edge corrosion it is best to get that area repaired before the problem spreads across the whole building. Cladding Coatings can concentrate on a specific area of concern, it doesn’t need to be a full replacement or full paint job. Tackling the problem at this stage can prevent larger and more costly repairs in future.
As well as metal sheet cladding wooden and masonry cladding can be repaired too. Examples include our work on the Aquinas College project, where the wooden cladding had failed around nail heads and joints. In this case, water was found to be pooling, which had in turn absorbed into the full elevation: a strong example of how more extensive cladding repair work can be tackled by our team.
The same applies to roofs which are naturally prone to damage. It bears the brunt of falling debris, the sun’s rays and of course the force of the other elements. Cladding Coatings are licensed to fly drones so we can send one up to video the affected area then we can playback to provide a detailed, accurate and fair assessment with quotation. This service is also available to show completed work.
Cut-edge corrosion is a common concern with metal sheet roofing. This happens when the edge of the metal sheets at the end of the roof or around openings (such as doors and windows) breaks down. It peels and deteriorates, allowing water to enter the building and causes damage to its contents. If cut edge corrosion is left untreated, it can eat into the metal cladding which will lead to weaknesses in the structure where water can enter the building. Once this starts, the condition of the cladding will deteriorate rapidly which will affect the value of the building and increase maintenance and repair costs dramatically. At Cladding Coatings we are highly experienced at repairing and treating cut-edge corrosion. To ensure your building remains watertight we apply Tor Elastaseal™ Fibretex an industry leading system, to treat the damage of the metal cladding.
Protect
Cladding Coatings Ltd are approved Tor Partners, the scheme which is operated by Tor Coatings ensures Tor’s systems are installed correctly by trained, experienced and competent painting contractors.
Tor Elastaseal™ Fibretex is applied by brush, and is safe and easy to install, suitable for most roof types and is long lasting. Once the topcoat is applied it can blend in with the surrounding roof area. A fibre reinforcement tape is used as part of the system giving extra strength. An example of where we have used the Tor system can be seen at The Fleets, Barnsley College, where we used the system to repair and protect the bright coloured roof.
After troubled areas have been repaired we can repaint and protect the surface for years to come. Using paint with exceptional anti-corrosion properties and proven smooth application, we refurbish your building with only the most high-performing systems. You can also rest assured that we’ll protect every finer detail of your façade. We take care to cover window and door frames before spraying to keep them protected at all times. Each colour comes courtesy of a tried and tested cladding painting system from a recognised brand name, including high-performance Noxyde from Rust-Oleum, so there’s no compromise on performance quality with any colour you choose. Due to the materials used and our experienced team we are confident to offer a 10 year guarantee.
