How we’re making positive environmental changes

The Cladding Coatings commitment to climate change: what we’re doing, and why it matters.

Reducing environmental damage may be the topic of the moment thanks to the COP26 summit. Yet for us here at Cladding Coatings, the effect we have on our climate is and has always been, an ongoing, significant focus. When completing cladding painting projects and carrying out other refurbishment services, we continually try to make positive environmental changes.

We know the impact everyone involved in our work, from our team on sites to our suppliers worldwide, has on the environment. It’s why we’ve always strived to do better, making sustainable commitments from the early days of our business. Here are just some of the ways we’re dedicated to making a positive difference.

Cladding Coatings

Our use of low VOC paints

Most traditional paints contain offensive volatile organic compounds, known as VOCs. This means they contain heavy metals and chemicals, such as Formaldehyde, which are harmful from the moment of application.

During cladding painting, everyone close by is at risk with high VOC paints, which can emit harmful levels of the compounds for up to five years following application. Producing them is a problem too, as they are manufactured from non-sustainable resources, creating toxic waste that damages human health with poor air quality.

To prevent these damaging environmental effects of VOC emissions, at Cladding Coatings we’re committed to cladding painting using low VOC paints. These include our industry-leading systems. Rust-Oleum Noxyde® is part of this range: it’s one of our most popular and trusted paint systems, and it boasts low VOC levels.

An understanding of environmental risk

Positive climate change happens when we understand the work that we do and the impact it has on the world around us. It’s why every single member of our Cladding Coatings team is committed to our growing knowledge of environmental risk and what that means for our cladding painting work.

It starts with a strong understanding of ISO 12944 classification. ISO 12944 classification explains the level of environmental risk based on a building’s location. A C1 property has low risk levels; for example, it may be a safe and well-heated inland school. Yet a classification of C5I or C5M means a building is exposed to high pollution and heavy humidity.

To manage the environmental risk these different properties pose, this awareness means we can clearly determine the best cladding painting system to use on your façade. It’s all about educating ourselves about climate issues and doing what we can with our understanding to make improvements in every way.

The Cladding Coatings climate pledge

The construction industry contributes significantly to carbon dioxide emissions in the UK. Therefore, we, and our suppliers, contacts and colleagues, have a duty to minimise the impact of our activities on the world around us.

At Cladding Coatings, we’ve made a commitment with our pledge to do better. In our Environmental Policy, we’ve put a strategy in place to show you, transparently and wholeheartedly, how we’re going to do even more to protect our climate. It includes making sure we minimise waste and toxic emissions, actively encouraging recycling, and promoting products with reduced environmental impact both in production and distribution.

As with all our work, integrity is key. That’s why we accept responsibility for the actions we take on our environment, from procurement and processes to our cladding painting itself, and for doing what we can to change for the better. We’ll train our staff to raise awareness of issues and pledge collective commitment to the climate as a company, and comply with all relevant environmental legislation in everything we do.
