Grundfos Manufacturing Facility, Sunderland
The external cladding required recoating in specifica areas due to deterioration, flaking paint and damage from signage. Our teams re-coated and refreshed the building exterior to improve the overall aesthetics.

Grundfos is a global leader in advanced pump solutions and water technology, an operates a key manufacturing site in Sunderland. The facility’s external cladding had deteriorated in several areas due to environmental exposure and legacy signage, compromising both aesthetic appeal and long-term protection. Cladding Coatings was commissioned to restore and protect the building envelope using our trusted 15-Year Warranty System.

Project Objectives
- Re-coat damaged and flaking cladding panels across all elevations
- Restore surface integrity behind three large signage areas
- Apply protective coatings to doors, shutters, and steelwork
- Enhance visual consistency and extend the lifespan of the building’s exterior
Challenges and Access Solutions
One of the primary challenges was accessing the high-level areas behind three large signs where paint had flaked extensively. These zones required precision surface preparation and coating application using a 60ft boom lift. To ensure safe and stable access, we arranged the boom, complete with ground mats to protect the surrounding terrain and maintain operational safety.
Scope of Works
Signage Zones – Rear of Three Signs
The areas behind the signage had suffered significant paint degradation, leaving the substrate exposed and vulnerable. Our team removed loose material, prepared the surface, and applied our 15-Year Warranty System to restore protection and uniformity.
Front Elevation – White Cladding
Two horizontal sections of white profiled cladding on the front elevation were re-coated to address patchiness and weathering. These panels now present a clean, consistent finish that aligns with Grundfos’ high standards of presentation.
Right Elevation – White Cladding
The entire right elevation, composed of white cladding panels, was treated with our warranty-backed coating system. This not only refreshed the appearance but also reinforced the building’s resistance to UV, moisture, and industrial pollutants.
Rear Elevation – White Cladding
Similar treatment was applied to the rear elevation, where full white cladding panels were cleaned, prepared, and coated. The result is a seamless finish that enhances both protection and curb appeal.
Left Elevation – Top Band and Lower Section
The top band of white cladding on the left elevation was re-coated, while the lower section underwent thorough cleaning to remove accumulated grime and restore its original tone. This dual approach ensured both visual harmony and material longevity.
Access Doors
All designated doors, were coated using our 15-Year System. This included high-traffic access points and service doors, ensuring durability and a professional finish across the site.
Loading Bay – Shutter Doors and Surrounds
Seven medium-sized flat shutter doors in the loading bay were re-coated to address fading and surface wear. Adjacent walls and steelwork around the bin shed were also treated, reinforcing structural protection and improving the overall site appearance.
Flat White Panels – Front and Left Elevations
A selection of flat white panels on the front and left elevations required re-coating due to flaking paint and previous signage damage. These panels were restored to a high standard using our long-life coating system, ensuring consistent coverage and enhanced resilience.
