Jain Community Centre, Manchester
A community centre that required a full roof and gutter refurbishment with a refit of solar panels to ensure a long lasting and durable roof.

Cladding Coatings was appointed to deliver a comprehensive roof refurbishment and safety enhancement project at the Jain Community Centre in Manchester, a well‑established cultural and religious hub serving the local Jain community. The building, which supports a wide range of community activities, required a long‑term protective solution for its ageing metal roof surfaces, alongside improvements to roof access, drainage, and future maintenance capability. The client sought a specialist contractor able to provide a durable, fully guaranteed system while working sensitively around an operational community facility. Cladding Coatings was selected for its technical expertise, proven systems, and reputation for delivering high‑quality refurbishment work across complex commercial and public buildings.
The primary requirement was the installation of Cladding Coatings’ 15‑year roof coating system across all metal roof areas, including the smaller roof sections at the front of the building. This system, designed to provide long‑term protection against corrosion, weathering, and water ingress, was chosen for its proven performance and its ability to extend the life of existing roof substrates without the disruption and cost of full replacement. The scope of work focused exclusively on the roof surfaces and did not include wall cladding or wall flashing details, allowing the project to remain targeted and cost‑effective while still delivering significant improvements to the building’s overall condition.
To facilitate safe and efficient access to the roof areas, an access tower was installed at the outset of the project. This ensured that all works could be carried out in compliance with health and safety regulations while minimising disruption to the centre’s daily operations. Given the building’s ongoing maintenance needs, the client also requested the installation of a permanent Mansafe system across all roof areas. The new system, designed using high‑quality components from leading manufacturers, will remain in place after project completion, enabling safe future access for inspections, cleaning, and maintenance. This long‑term safety provision was an important investment for the centre, ensuring that future works can be carried out responsibly and efficiently.

As part of the refurbishment, Cladding Coatings also installed a Weatherfast 25‑year gutter system to the upper roof. The lower roofs did not require this upgrade, and due to their construction, the system would not have been suitable for those areas. The new guttering provides enhanced durability and improved water management, reducing the risk of leaks and ensuring that the building remains protected during heavy rainfall. To further support effective drainage, two new external downpipes were fitted at the rear of the building, carefully installed through the top feature cladding to maintain the building’s aesthetic appearance while improving its functional performance.

The project also included the removal of the existing solar panels and their mounting system. This step was essential to allow full access to the roof surfaces for coating application. Once the roof coating system had been installed and fully cured, Cladding Coatings fitted a new mounting system and reinstated the existing solar panels. This approach ensured that the panels could continue to operate efficiently while benefiting from the improved roof protection beneath them. As part of an additional order, the team also supplied and fitted a new Solis inverter, supporting the centre’s ongoing commitment to sustainable energy use.
To provide the client with complete peace of mind, the project was backed by a 10‑year insurance‑backed guarantee (IBG). This warranty ensures that the work is protected even in the unlikely event of contractor insolvency, offering long‑term reassurance and demonstrating Cladding Coatings’ commitment to quality and accountability. The team also agreed to carry out annual gutter cleaning as part of the ongoing maintenance plan, ensuring that the new systems continue to perform at their best and that the building remains protected year after year.
The refurbishment of the Jain Community Centre’s roof has delivered a robust, long‑lasting protective solution that enhances both the safety and functionality of the building. The combination of a 15‑year coating system, a 25‑year guttering solution, a permanent Mansafe installation, and upgraded solar infrastructure ensures that the centre is well‑equipped for the future.
