The industrial building exhibited severe wear and tear, particularly on its external walls, which had been rendered previously, and left exposed to the elements for years. The Challenge

Leigh Cables’ factory building situated in Leigh, had suffered from prolonged weather exposure and structural movement. The original cement render was cracking and falling off, allowing rainwater to penetrate, further accelerating deterioration. Any attempts to repaint the render were short-lived, leading to a continuous cycle of maintenance issues. A plan was needed to improve the wall and for it to last long term.

The Solution

Cladding Coatings implemented a comprehensive refurbishment plan:

Installation of Galvanised Steel Rails: New galvanised steel rails were securely fitted to the building’s uneven walls with adjustable brackets, creating a straight and flat cladding line.

Modern Cladding: Plastisol-coated steel vertical wall cladding sheets were applied to the rails. The chosen colour was navy blue, complemented by anthracite trim for a striking contrast. This choice not only modernised the building’s appearance but also provided long-term weather protection.

Comprehensive Coverage: The project covered two key sections of the building—21 metres and 38 metres at full height—with mini-galvanised steel Z rails and cleats fitted to all main brick wall areas. The installation included new steel flashings around the top, bottom, corners, reveals, and doors/windows.

Cleanup and Final Touches: Upon completion, all debris and redundant materials were cleared away, leaving the site pristine.
