Screwfix, Sunderland

Screwfix's newly acquired premises required refurbishment and re-coating to bring it up to date and stand out from nearby competition.

THE CLADDING COATINGS TEAM HAS RECENTLY COMPLETED A PROJECT FOR SCREWFIX, A CUSTOMER WE HAVE WORKED WITH ON SEVERAL OTHER PROJECTS.

Screwfix is the UK’s largest multi-channel supplier of Trade Tools, Plumbing, Electrical, Bathrooms and Kitchens. Screwfix is part of Kingfisher Plc, a home improvement company with over 1,100 stores in 10 countries in Europe, Russia and Turkey. The current project was for a new Screwfix outlet based in Leechmere Industrial Estate in Sunderland town centre.

Cladding Coatings was contacted by the Screwfix Facilities Team following confirmation of their new location, resulting from their survey, Screwfix had found that whilst it was an ideal location for their business, the previous tenants had left the premises in a poor state of repair.

Strategically this site is important to Screwfix as a competitor supplier is also based on the Leechmere Industrial Estate complex. Therefore, the appearance of the premises was of particularly great importance to Screwfix as potential customers and suppliers would be able to compare them to a competitor at the location.

Following a full survey of the site, we discussed the areas that concerned the Screwfix Facilities Team, our project would involve installing Noxyde paint systems to the roof and the existing wall cladding, then an Alkathane to be applied to the trims, doors, drip sills, fascias.

Once we had go ahead from Screwfix we created the necessary Risk Assessments and Method Statements for the project, working with a client like Screwfix means they expect a professional and thorough health and safety assessment before we start work. This is something Cladding Coatings is experienced in and completes for every project to ensure safe working practices for both our technicians, customer’s staff and the general public.

The majority of the project required focus on the roofing of the Screwfix building, we therefore erected and installed a scaffold handrail, access tower and roof light protection system to ensure our teams were able to complete their work safely whilst working at heights on the roof of the building.

All the surfaces were cleaned and prepared before we were able to install the Noxyde paint system, due to the timing of the project the work needed to be completed during the start of the Winter months. Our team were mindful of managing their time to ensure work coincided with the favourable weather which was becoming few and far between as we headed into the Winter season.

Once completed, the work was checked by the Cladding Coatings team, all scaffold removed and the site tidied for inspection by the Screwfix Facilities team on site. The project was signed off and we issued a 10 year guarantee for the project to give Screwfix the peace of mind and confidence in the project.

The finished result means that Screwfix’s new premises is impressive in its surroundings, generating an excellent impression for visitors to the Industrial Estate and potential new customers visiting the competitor outlet nearby.
