The Fleets, Barnsley College

The roof of this college required cut edge corrosion treatment. Our expert team were able to carry out the repair work and leave the roof with an extended life span.

A drone survey at this education facility uncovered hard to identify damage at this client’s colourful property.

The Fleets is a campus at Barnsley College in South Yorkshire. We were part of the team working on the renovation of the campus buildings in summer 2020, ready for the start of the new academic year. Naturally, times for students have been exceptionally challenging. The external wall and roof refurbishment of the campus, alongside other renovation works at the site, helped to give the students peace of mind in the security and performance of their college building, as well as allow them to take pride in their educational home.

We used our extensive schools, academies and education cladding refurbishment expertise on site to play our crucial part in providing a secure campus for the students to be proud of. Here’s how we did it:

Identifying issues with drone surveys

With every project we approach, we carry out a free of charge on site survey for our client. This lets us visit and view the buildings in question so we can provide fair, fast and accurate quotations. The Fleets at Barnsley College went one step further, choosing to invest in one of our expertly conducted drone surveys.

With our accredited drone operator, our MD Mike Hallwood, flying the drone, the recorded footage allowed us to unveil the minor cut-edge corrosion damage on the grey roof of the campus. While the issue wasn’t yet extensive, we knew it could become a major problem for our client very quickly. Thanks to our in-depth drone survey, we were able to spot even the smallest issues and provide the client with costs to repair the cut-edge corrosion damage, all within one single project to reduce both expense and disruption.

A campus of two colours

The Fleets has two buildings with boldly coloured roofs. On both roofs, our expert roof coating team installed our 15-year Tor Edge Protect system. The client chose not to recoat the entire roof and instead preferred the bold colour choice for the cut edge treatment work.

The system is applied to a prepared surface with a fibre reinforcement tape, used as part of the system providing extra strength. The top coat is then applied which is available in a variety of colours to compliement or match the existing surface.

It goes above beyond our minimum ten year guarantee for optimal peace of mind.
