Weathering the storm – the ideal opportunity for training and development

As ferocious storms hit the UK and cause major disruption it is a reminder of the risks involved in our work. Particularly the jobs working at heights and on roofs. It is the best time to come in from the cold blustery conditions and learn or refresh our skills and accreditations.

Most of our team have parked up their vans while they take a bit of time out for training. First aid refreshers, management courses, safety training and our roof safety, harness system annual courses are all in the calendar for the coming weeks.

Safety and training for our teams is highly important to us and essential for the work we carry out throughout the year. While the weather is windy, cold and damp it’s the perfect time to update our training records.

Here are some of the accreditations we hold and training schemes that we undertake:

CHAS – The Contractors Health and Safety Assessment Scheme

EUSR The Rooftop Worker – Safety & Access scheme

The Rooftop Worker – Safety & Access scheme is designed to support the safety of those individuals who access and work on flat roofs. It provides a framework to support consistency and relevance in training provision and assessment of competence.

Developed in collaboration with the Telecommunications industry “Mast and Tower Safety Group”, the scheme recognises the underpinning knowledge and skills required to climb fixed ladders, access flat roof tops, use personal fall protection equipment, work safely whilst on the rooftop as well as rescue considerations.

This scheme covers the minimum training and assessment required for those individuals whose roles require them to work safely on flat roof tops and incorporates the relevant requirements of HSE legislation.

IPAF – The International Powered Access Federation

The International Powered Access Federation (IPAF) promotes the safe and effective use of powered access equipment worldwide in the widest sense – through providing technical advice and information; through influencing and interpreting legislation and standards; and through safety initiatives and training programmes.

Asbestos Awareness

Asbestos is an extremely hazardous substance that causes serious ill-health to anyone who disturbs or damages it. For this reason, all workers who may come across asbestos or asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) must be trained so that they can work safely.

SSSTS – Site Supervision Safety Training Scheme

SSSTS stands for Site Supervision Safety Training Scheme. It is designed for workers who have, or are about to have, supervisor responsibilities on a construction site. The course covers a range of health, safety, and environmental issues that supervisors need to be aware of in their role. SSSTS courses are designed to ensure that site supervisors have the knowledge and skills required to carry out their duties effectively and safely.

CSCS – Construction Skills Certification Scheme

CSCS is the leading skills certification scheme within the UK construction industry.

CSCS cards provide proof that individuals working on construction sites have the appropriate training and qualifications for the job they do, thereby helping to improve standards and safety in UK construction.

It is important for us to carry out these vital courses to ensure the safety of all staff and customers. We also pride ourselves in keeping up with all the latest technologies, equipment and techniques.
