Military Base
This military base had been long-overdue building refurbishment. The facilities management team at the military had spent a decade discussing what needed to be done. When the time was right, they knew their longed-for project was in safe hands with Cladding Coatings.
Our team spent a few weeks at the base in late spring for an onsite spraying project that delivered the professional façade finish to match the military’s exceptionally high-standards.
Meeting new challenges to complete on time
The work took place in May 2020. This gave an unusual feeling to begin with, as the country was in the middle of a strict nationwide lockdown. However, fortunately construction work was given the green light to continue as an essential service, and we could confidently adapt to a socially distanced safe and secure way of working.
Working an army base adds additional time to a project. Each day on arrival at the site, the team and our vehicles were fully searched. This added half an hour to the start of each day. However, with our expertise in careful planning and project management, we factored this 30-minute period into our project timescale.
Cladding cleaning to prepare and repair
Preparing the façade for onsite spraying was important to make sure it was ready for the paint system to be installed. Our Cladding Coatings team cleaned out both gutters and sealed all the joints in the gutters with a protective coating sealant system. We cleaned the downspouts on the rear elevation and metal staircase, applied fungicidal wash to the brick work on gable elevations using a low-pressure jet wash, and cleared gravel from elevations where necessary so we could paint the drip cill detail.
Some cladding repair work was also needed. Some parts of the building were damaged and needed replacement. We removed weather strips, corner flashing, bowed out flashing, and door head drip flashing. In all cases here, we supplied and fitted a brand new replacement in Plastisol coated steel to protect from further corrosion damage.
Onsite spraying to the highest standards
The primary reason for the project was to complete onsite spraying work. This was not only to protect such an important building but to make sure the presentation of the façade matched that of the army itself.
A trusted location needs a tried and tested system, so we installed Rust-Oleum Noxyde® to the external wall elevation. The ten-year system, backed by a decade-long guarantee, is exceptionally flexible so can be easily applied by our onsite spraying team, with minimal disruption to the army base’s essential operations. We applied Rust-Oleum Noxyde® to the gable elevation, opposite gable elevation, and front elevation including downspouts.
No detail was left untouched. We prepared and painted five pedestrian doors, and cleaned another that needed attention. We also prepared and painted the four canopy columns on the rear elevation, cleaning and refinishing the underside of the canopy detail. As our Cladding Coatings team has such a breath of building maintenance expertise, the client knew we could take care of everything as part of one singular project.
After 10 years discussing an external building refurbishment project, the client was absolutely delighted with the finished result. They were incredibly pleased the work had been done, and with the final façade finish our team at Cladding Coatings delivered.
