Whitecroft Lighting Ltd. Ashton Under Lyne
Cladding Coatings used their extensive cladding knowledge and professional coating systems to deliver a cladding restoration project at this site in Ashton Under Lyne.
Whitecroft Lighting Ltd. are one of the largest manufacturers of commercial lighting within the UK, providing lighting solutions to a wide range of different sectors.
They got in touch with Cladding Coatings as they knew there were elements of their building that were not only looking tired and worn but parts of their building were showing signs of damage and deterioration. They knew the importance of tackling these issues before they got any worse or caused an impact to their business operations.
On-site survey for an accurate quote
We visited the site and completed a free on-site survey to establish what the building issues were. It was clear from our on-site survey that an extensive cladding restoration project would need to be carried out as well as other additional works.
The on-site survey revealed that there were multiple areas of damaged cladding that would need replacing and other areas of the building would need repainting and refurbishing. We also discovered some bird netting that would need removing and subsequently replacing.
Based on what we saw at the Whitecroft Lighting Ltd. site we came up with an accurate quote detailing the plan of work required. Once agreed with our customer we were able to start working on site.
Preparation for perfect paintwork
As with any cladding restoration project that we complete it is essential that surfaces are prepared correctly ready for painting and cladding restoration.
On this project, we thoroughly jet-washed and cleaned the cladding as well as other external parts of the building that were due to be painted. Once all the dirt and debris had been cleared we were able to prepare the cladding and metalwork using rust inhibiting primers before proceeding to coat the areas in our expert paint systems.
In addition to cleaning and priming the cladding, we also had the task of bird netting removal. We worked with a pest control contractor to ensure the safe and efficient removal of the bird netting and its fixings. Subsequently, we were able to install new bird netting with new fixtures and fittings once all the cladding restoration work was complete.
High quality paint systems for a professional finish
At Cladding Coatings, we are used to working with different coating systems for different types of cladding and this cladding restoration project saw us use a selection from our high-performance systems portfolio.
The tried and tested Noxyde® by Rust-Oleum was used on multiple elevations, it is an ideal choice for metal cladding as it has excellent corrosion protection and waterproofing properties. Noxyde® can also be applied in a wide variety of shades and colours.
We elected to use Rust-Oleum 7500 Alkythane® to coat the 7 steel beams on the canopy of the building as well as the external box and frame sections of some of the roller shutters. 7500 Alkythane® offers incredible corrosion protection and is particularly well suited to highly corrosive environments. You can read more about corrosion classifications here.
It wasn’t just metal cladding that required some attention, there were two wooden panel sections that required refurbishment. We used a proprietary wood system to coat these 2 sections, you can read more about our wooden cladding coating and the systems we use here.
In addition to the cladding restoration and painting, we also painted other external features such as bollards and a roof vent on one of the elevations.
Cladding replacement
Whilst we try to repair and refurbish cladding wherever possible, sometimes replacement becomes the only suitable option. This was the case at Whitecroft Lighting Ltd. as there were multiple areas of damage on the cladding and drip flashing.
The existing damaged profiled sheets were removed and were replaced with new plastisol coated steel profiled cladding sheets. Damaged drip flashing was also removed and new purpose-made plastisol coated steel drip flashing was installed to match the existing.
Once the new cladding was installed we resprayed it to match the rest of the cladding to give a consistent finish.
Damaged cladding can cause serious problems for your building that is why it is essential any cladding issues are dealt with as soon as they arise. If the damage has gone too far then replacing the damaged cladding is the only way to secure and protect your building.
Whitecroft Lighting were pleased with the work we carried out for them. Their site is now safe, secure, and has a professional-looking finish. They can also rest assured knowing that the refurbishment work we have carried out is of the highest quality and comes backed by our minimum 10-year guarantee.
