Jubilee Leisure Park, Blackpool
Work has been completed to refurbish the external walls of two buildings at Jubliee Leisure Park in Blackpool. The leisure park is situated on the Seafront at Cleveleys, a popular location for families and holiday makers.
Originally the buildings were erected as part of the seafront development in 2006 and have since been home to the Vue cinema, which is still on the site, an ice rink, children’s play areas and more recently a JD Gym.
Both buildings became in need of an external refurbishment and being over 16 years old were starting to show signs of deterioration. Being in a coastal location the harsh weather and environment has also played its part in this ageing process, resulting in heavy corrosion.
Our teams were called in due to our expertise, quality and vast portfolio of similar projects. Our wall coating work is guaranteed for a minimum of 10 years, giving the client assurance that the building’s lifespan will be extended significantly, and the newly painted exterior will dramatically improve the overall look of the properties and the leisure park destination.
You can see our teams at work in this video which captures the amazing transformation of the buildings.
Once on site, we set about preparing, both in terms of health and safety and for the metal cladding surface to be coated. The site was still operational meaning the park was busy with pedestrians and cars. Users of the cinema and gym were constantly coming and going throughout the day. Its nothing new for us to be working in this kind of environment but it meant we had to take extra precautions to keep everyone safe and avoid any disruption.
The signage needed removing and loose fixings and materials were taken down or secured. Once cleaned thoroughly it was clear to see the true condition of the external metal cladding.
We applied a base layer to the walls followed by a specialist coating to achieve the best finish possible. On this project we used Tor Unicover Ultra System for all the wall areas. This system is perfect for these types of metal wall cladding, is hardwearing, colour stable and has excellent resistance to weathering.
The refurbishment work included replacement of some flashings and soffit panels which were also coated to match, leaving a uniform finish throughout the entire façade.
There were also 20 external doors spread across these buildings, which were each carefully hand painted including the frames. Care and attention to detail matters on these areas and can make a difference to the look of the entire façade.
Before completing work on site, it was requested that we removed 21 redundant downlights from the soffits and replace the panels, soffits and flashings in these areas to improve the appearance further.
We carried out further replacement and repair work which completed the project after being called back to site by the client, who was really pleased with the finished result and wanted to ensure that everything was repaired or replaced in order for the building to stay in good condition long term.
Often clients call us back onto site to complete further works after seeing the end result. This is normally because when they see the overall finished look, they are so amazed at how good it is, they find more areas to refurbish.
The finish on this project was really good and the buildings now look like they did when they were new. It has completely refreshed the leisure park and hopefully will attract more visitors to the area.
As specialist applicators on buildings such as these, we have the experience, knowledge and attention to detail to make them stand out from the rest.
