One of our latest external refurbishment projects was for Designation Ltd, a specialist manufacturer of flexible hose and ducting solutions, which operates from a prominent industrial facility in Peterborough. Cladding Coatings was appointed to carry out a comprehensive external refurbishment of the site, including both buildings on the premises. The project involved repainting all metal wall cladding, external gutter faces, windows, doors, and loading bays—delivering a complete transformation using their trusted 15-Year System.

Designation’s primary goal was to restore and protect the aging metal cladding and external guttering, which had become weathered over time. The refurbishment covered a wide range of surfaces and components:

• Gutter coating in black for both buildings
• Preparation and repainting of:
• 10 personal access doors
• 3 shutter doors
• 2 large loading bay doors (in red)
• 70 linear metres of external windows

To ensure safe and efficient access to all elevations, the team utilised a combination of scissor lifts and cherry pickers, operated by our team of IPAF-certified professionals.

Before any coatings were applied, the Cladding Coatings team carried out a thorough surface preparation process to ensure the best possible finish. This began with high-pressure washing to remove built-up dirt, moss, and environmental pollutants from all surfaces. Areas affected by cut edge corrosion were treated to halt further degradation and protect the integrity of the cladding. To maintain a clean and precise application, all non-spray areas—including signage, glazing, and external fixtures—were carefully masked.

This meticulous preparation was essential in achieving optimal adhesion and delivering a flawless, long-lasting finish on this extensive external refurbishment.

Working in close collaboration with Designation, Cladding Coatings also developed a bold and cohesive colour scheme that aligned with the company’s branding. The gutters were coated in a sleek, modern black to create a strong and professional visual identity. The two large loading bay doors were painted in a vibrant red, echoing Designation’s brand colours and enhancing visibility. Meanwhile, the windows and personal access doors were refurbished in complementary tones, creating a unified and polished appearance across the entire facility.

Given the scale and height of the buildings, ensuring safe access was a critical aspect of the project. To reach all areas efficiently and securely, the Cladding Coatings team utilised scissor lifts, which provided stable vertical access to the lower elevations. For the upper sections and more difficult-to-reach areas, cherry pickers were employed, offering the flexibility needed to complete the work safely and effectively.

All operatives on site were fully trained and certified in working at height, and the project was carried out in full compliance with health and safety regulations from start to finish.

The transformation was immediate and impressive. The once-faded and weathered exterior was replaced with a sleek, modern façade that now reflects the professionalism and innovation of the Designation brand.
